How High Tech Is Your Home?

If the latest technology or entertainment options are important in your new home, add the following questions to your buyer’s checklist and consult an e-PRO such as Howard Johnson Jr.
1. Are there enough jacks in every room for cable TV and high-speed Internet hookups?
2. Are there enough telephone extensions or jacks?
3. Are the areas designated for appliances (i.e. kitchen, family room) built to accommodate modern sizes?
4. Is the home prewired for a home theater or multi-room audio and video?
5. Are the premier cable, telephone and other service providers with the latest technology in your desired areas?
6. Does the home have a local area network for linking computers?
7. Does the home already have wiring for DSL or other high-speed or wireless Internet connection?
8. Does the home have a cooling system that includes controls with programmable thermostats?
9. Does the home have multi-room lighting controls, window-covering controls, or other home automation features?
10. Is the home wired with multi-purpose in-wall wiring that allows for reconfigurations to update services as technology changes?
11. Does your home or community come equipped with a stand-by generator?
12. Are there enough electrical outlets in every area for all these technology items?
13. Is there ample electricity coming to the home to power theses devices and prevent system overload?
